Abstract
Delivery by caesarean section causes discomfort in the surgical area and several studies regarding caesarean section operations show that caesarean section operations will require a longer healing time for the uterine wound compared to vaginal delivery. Cesarean section operations cause around 27.3% more pain than normal childbirth, which is only around 9%. The pain increases on the first day after the cesarean section operation. Psychologically, this causes fear and anxiety about pain after pain medication. Postoperative pain will cause physical and psychological reactions in postpartum mothers such as impaired mobility, lack of activity, difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite, and refusal to care for the baby. 4 Aromatherapy is a complementary therapy in midwifery practice which involves the use of fragrances from essential oils, which come from plants, and can be combined with base oils (medicated oil mixtures) which can be inhaled or rubbed during massage on intact skin. Aromatherapy is said to have the ability to provide a therapeutic effect in maternity care. 8 It is hoped that the benefits of this research can be applied by the community, especially mothers who give birth by caesarean section, to reduce post-cesarean section pain. The sample for this study was 30 respondents from post-SC mothers, 15 respondents with intervention and 15 respondents without intervention by giving laavender aromatherapy. This type of quantitative research with a research design using an analytical survey, namely quasi-experimental with a pre and post test approach with control group design. The results of this study showed that the value of p = 0.028 < 0.05, there was a significant difference between the post test scores and the effect of treatment (administration of levender aromatherapy) on the post SC pain scale. It is hoped that the results of this research can be used as a combination therapy for post-SC mothers to reduce pain and create comfort.
